Many of us have experienced shock and deep distress in recent one or two years because of sudden changes in our personal and collective reality.
Not only that what has got triggered is often deeper emotional wounds, some going back beyond we had narrative memories, imprints in the body that register "lack", including but not limited to, lack of safety.
The sense of being "out of control" and being disconnected is deeply unsettling.
From the experience in our wellness centre, chronic health conditions also have a definite correlation to unresolved emotional wounds and trauma. We agree with the observations of Dr Gabor Mate, MD, who describes the “cancer personality” and "cardio vascular disease personality" from his decades in healing career in his book “The Body Says No”. With cancer and cardiovascular diseases as the top two death causes in the modern world, shouldn’t we also be concerned about the epidemic of unresolved trauma?
You come from a 'normal" family" and you have a good childhood....
And yet you still struggle with a sense of anxiety? Low self-esteem? Sense of not being welcomed? Expectation to fail or struggle?
Trauma is not in the event itself but in how it impacts the person. The GOOD NEWS is now our understanding of neuroplasticity confirms our brain and our neurology keeps evolving and changing from our interaction with our environment. Our “personality” is NOT set at birth, and trauma does not have to break us for life.
While the conscious mind does not remember, our body always does. This is why conventional talk therapy or therapies focused on changing behaviour are not effective in deeper trauma healing, in fact they can well have the opposite effect.

If we look around the world, most of us who functional NORMALLY can relate to some of the above.
How to Start Healing
To start healing we need to RESOURCE and create SAFETY and we need to involve the body and its language (sensation, touch and feelings). It takes gentleness, patience and the appropriate tools. It takes not just changing our “belief” and behaviour but going deeper to the brain stem level. We know we are healed when our impulses have changed.
Since most of our emotional wounding is from the breaking of connection, true healing requires
re-establishing CONNECTION – it takes “others” to hold space and co-regulate with us – physically or virtually.
We need connection to heal
Whether it is private healing with a trauma-informed healing professional or in a small group setting, the presence of “other” can be very helpful.
This is the INTENTION of this healing circle. While ideally one can work with a trauma-informed professional who they feel safe with, we understand this may not be accessible to everyone.

Anita Cheung is a trauma-informed interdisciplinary health practitioner and transformation specialist, operating since 2005, and founder of iLiving (formerly i-Detox) Wellness centre in Hong Kong.
Driven by her desire of self discovery and healing and to help her clients to heal more completely, Anita has studied and been trained in multiple healing and transformation disciplines including various Somatic trauma healing modalities, Breathwork, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), AFT (Aroma Freedom Technique), Family/ Systemic Constellation, various energy healing modalities, as well as nutrition and bioresonance which is where she started.
In recent years as she witnessed collective trauma and how it triggers unresolved early developmental trauma, and how it has affected herself and people around her, she has become more dedicated in the study of early developmental trauma (which practically affects everyone), and integrating into her practice somatic practices which are especially effective for the type of trauma that originates from early life and are difficult to heal with reductionistic conventional therapeutic approaches.

Getting the best out of your online experience:
A. Using Zoom:
- Download from Zoom.us to install the software for free if you do not have to already. Test it by using it with someone to ensure you know how to mute/unmute yourself, turn on/off camera and test the volume and speaker
- On the day, make sure you have good internet connection. You may want to save bandwidth and switch off any connection that is not necessary.
- Use headset for better experience, although it’s optional. A good set of speaker can work well just as well if not better.

B. Preparing yourself and your space:
Switch off your phone and reduce electro-magnetic pollution as much as you can. Join only if you can dedicate the time to yourself in a quiet and safe space where you can fully relax. (Do not join with your TV on. Do not tune in if you are driving. Do not join if you cannot have to rush off before the session is up.)
You need an area where you can lie down comfortably by yourself or sit with back support. If you are lying down on the floor, have a yoga mat (or two) laid out, and something that can keep your whole body warm while you are relaxing (think corpse pose at the end of yoga).
If you wish you can diffuse essential oils, surround yourself with your favourite crystals….anyway to create a sacred and healing space!
